Birdie
Rescued : 25/08/2024 Reason: Vehicle Strike Weight: 6.5kg Sex: Female
Birdie, a brave koala mum, was tragically struck by a car while carrying her tiny joey, Bogey. She was left severely injured on the side of Panalatinga road. Devastatingly, the impact of the vehicle strike lead to serious head trauma for tiny Bogey which he just couldn't overcome.
Birdie sustained a dislocated hip and a severe haematoma to her mammary gland. The following day she underwent urgent specialist surgery to repair her hip and give her a chance to be a mum again.
Birdie will be in care for a number of months as her hip an haematoma heal and as she builds up strength in her leg again before returning to the wild. She is a sweet koala who is very well behaved in care with her good appetite and low stress attitude.
How I got my name: Birdie was found injured in the middle of the road near a local golf course so was fondly named after the golf term “Birdie”
Favourite eucalypt to eat: River Red Gum (Eucalyptus Camaldulensis)
