Koala at SKER with Sunset

Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue Ltd (SKER) is a registered charity run by a professional team of passionate volunteers based in Onkaparinga Hills, South Australia.

At SKER, we take great pride in providing exceptional rescue and rehabilitation services to our local community, striving to achieve optimal outcomes for the animals in our care. Yet, SKER extends beyond being solely a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation service.

We support our community by:

  • Protecting orphaned, displaced and injured native animals by providing a free 24/7 rescue service and rehabilitation program, including providing veterinary care in our fully equipped veterinary clinic within our purpose built rehabilitation facility. SKER prioritises the best interests of animals above all else.

  • Preparing native animals for release back into their natural environment by maintaining their natural instincts and abilities, despite their temporary time in care.

  • Supporting the work of research programs and other native animal conservation stakeholders, including through the provision of data and samples, with the aim to improve long term wildlife welfare outcomes.

SKER thinks differently about wildlife rehabilitation.

We’re driven by a deep understanding of wildlife behaviour that has resulted in the development of impactful wildlife solutions. New ways of thinking have empowered our advocacy in the eyes of local and state governments, urging effective measures to reduce wildlife fatalities on roads.
