Sometimes the smallest moments of bravery can make all the difference.
One evening in McLaren Vale, a driver suddenly saw a tiny koala joey on the road. She tried to avoid him, but there wasn’t enough time — and in a heart-stopping moment, Mace was struck by the car. When the driver stopped and rushed back, she found something incredible: little Mace was clinging to the grill of her car, holding on with everything he had.
That brave grip likely saved his life.
Mace was rushed to our wildlife hospital where our vet team discovered he had ripped off several nails on his back paw, exposing the delicate bones underneath. He’s now receiving specialised care, including regular bandage changes to protect his injured foot from infection until his nails grow back.
As a growing joey, Mace also needs four bottle feeds a day, soft bedding, warmth, and plenty of fresh eucalyptus to help him thrive. He’ll remain in care for around six months as he heals, grows stronger, and learns all the skills he needs to return to the wild.
By sponsoring him, you’ll be providing the essentials he needs to thrive—regular vet checks, his life-sustaining specialised milk, and, before long, the fresh eucalyptus he’ll eagerly explore. Your sponsorship will ensure that he has the very best opportunity to grow into a wild koala..
