One chilly spring evening, a kind rescuer found a beautiful koala sitting injured by the roadside. This brave boy, later named Shrek, was rushed to our wildlife hospital where X-rays revealed he had a dislocated hip and a broken bone in his leg.

Thanks to urgent veterinary care, Shrek received pain relief, a special hip sling, and the surgery he needed to repair the break in his leg. Happily, his hip didn’t require any further surgery — a huge relief for his medical team!

Shrek will now spend some time in our hospital receiving expert care before moving to our outdoor pens, and then to our tree yards. Here he’ll continue his recovery and build back his strength over the coming months, getting one step closer to returning to the wild.

Shrek has a long recovery ahead which comes with lots of ongoing expenses including onsite vet treatment, medication and ongoing eucalypt for him to eat.

By sponsoring Shrek, you’re helping give this brave boy the best possible chance to return to the treetops where he belongs.
