  • What does SKER do?

    SKER’s mission is to ensure South Australia’s native wildlife continue to enjoy a quality life in the wild by providing advice, advocacy, rescue, treatment and rehabilitation services, specialising in the rehabilitation of koalas and echidnas. We protect these populations through revegetating their habitats and working alongside researchers to provide meaningful data.

  • Where in South Australia do you service?

    We’re always happy to offer advice to anyone who finds injured or distressed wildlife. If we’re unable to attend ourselves, we work closely with other trusted rescue groups to ensure help is on the way. Our fastest response times are in Adelaide’s southern suburbs, where our team is based.

  • Does SKER receive government funding?

    No — SKER does not receive any government or regular funding. Our rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation work is entirely funded by generous public donations. Every dollar helps us continue to care for South Australia’s native wildlife.

  • Will I get in trouble if I injure an animal in an accident?

    No — if you accidentally injure a wild animal, you won’t get in trouble. What’s most important is that you report it as soon as possible so the animal can get the help it needs. Please contact a wildlife rescue group like SKER immediately — your quick action could save a life.

  • Are your wildlife rescuers paid to attend to wildlife?

    No — all of our wildlife rescuers are dedicated volunteers. They generously give their time outside of their regular jobs to help animals in need, simply out of the kindness of their hearts and a deep passion for wildlife.

  • What do I do if I find an injured animal?

    Remain calm, Ensure your safety by being aware of your surrounds eg. traffic, stressed animal. Keep an eye on the animal and call SKER on 0435 056252 immediately for advice.
